Vet visit #3 and Stella's first rain

Before I get into today's subjects, I want to thank the folks who have been reading this blog. It sure is more fun to write when you know that someone is actually reading it. So thanks for your feedback and for taking the time!

Stella had another trip to see Uncle Hans yesterday. She received her 12 week shot and another worming.
She is growing like a weed and looks like a real dog now.  Hans told me that she is a very nice dog with a great disposition; friendly and not afraid of anything. I think he is happy that Kent and I finally have a dog that isn't terrified of him.  Hans comes over to the house quite often (to go fishing with Kent ) and she shows no fear of the Doc.

Yesterday we had some rain in the afternoon and when I let Stella and Gordo out to potty I noticed Stella just sitting in the grass wondering what was hitting her in the face!! She was flinching and looking all around but just couldn't understand where it was coming from.  I'm so glad I caught this moment of discovery and wonder on her part. However, after a minute or two she just decided it wasn't worth losing playtime over and romped off to do her business and find something to chew on or chase. We've had some wind in the last few days as well and she delights in chasing leaves around the yard that are being blown about by the gusts of wind.

Today I caught her munching on something long and dark and half of it was hanging out of her mouth. I'm learning not to be squeamish about anything she puts in her mouth.  Well, this was a very dead dried up earth worm and she was just munching away! She has an incredible nose and I see her pulling them up out of the grass.  Well, at least it wasn't cat poo! I have been going out every morning and scooping it up as fast as I can before she gets to it...in fact I just follow her wherever she goes and try to intervene quickly. She finds it for me.

The training is still the sit, come and wait (stay).  She is getting to where she just sits and waits at doors now, knowing she won't be going through first. That includes her kennel door when I let her out. Gordo is a great role model and she picks up the good behavior from him too. I have been very sick with a bad respiratory infection so haven't moved on to much leash training until I feel better. We continue to discourage the biting with gentle "No bites!" and praise when she gently licks us instead.
