The Big Day!

Well, we are finally less than 24 hours away from bringing home the newest member of our pack! I have made the trip to the pet store for puppy food, treats, toys, collar, leash, baby gate and chew bones.  We have many dog beds in the house and I am washing the cover of the littlest one today.  It is important that Stella have her own space with her own toys, etc. Kaylene is going to give me a toy and blanket that Stella has been using that we can put in her bed to help her feel at home. She has her first visit to the vet scheduled for Friday, February 9th for shots and worming. I spoke to the vet, Dr. Hans Boer, yesterday to tell him I would like to bring her in before then for a "social visit". She will meet him and the staff and learn that it is a friendly place with good people so that her first impression of the place is not poking, prodding and shots. I have been saying "Stella" around Gordo a lot to get him used to the idea and sound of her name. She will have a chilly homecoming as it has snowed 6" today with lots of wind. Tomorrow is supposed to be very cold wiith temperatures in the single digits.  Trips outside to the "potty spot" will be brief I suspect!! I have shoveled a doggy path around the yard for short legged little dogs to explore and do their business. She will get a good taste of winter early in her young life.  I plan to take Gordo with me to get her and let them run around in Kaylene's yard for a bit before loading them up for the hour trip home.  They will each have their own crate for this trip. Eventually I am sure they can share one but for this first trip I think they need their own space. So stay tuned for the "Day One" entry. It may not happen tomorrow as I suspect I will have my hands full (and my heart .
